Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn take the lead in Focus Features and Working Title Films new romantic comedy CC:Emily

The film is directed by Alicia MacDonald and written by Rachel Hirons.

Focus Features and Working Title are delighted to announce principal photography has begun on CC:Emily, directed by Alicia MacDonald.

This marks MacDonald’s first feature film. Her previous credits include her TV directing debut with episodes of Pure for C4, followed by Flack. She also directed the second series of the Rose D'or nominated The Outlaws. Most recently, she directed an episode and co-executive produced Lena Dunham's Netflix series Too Much. Produced by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner for Working Title and Olivier Kaempfer for Parkville Pictures, the film was written by Rachel Hirons (A Guide to Second Date Sex; Powder Room; Kiss Me First).

In CC:Emily, when a lovesick musician is given the wrong number for his dream girl, he teams up with a driven psychology student to find her. Together, they spark a hilarious campus-wide frenzy that tests their own hearts and ambitions along the way.

Focus has worldwide rights on the film. Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution for the studio.

The exciting and upcoming young cast is led by Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn. Critically acclaimed actress Rice is known for her work on the hit HBO limited series Mare of Easttown and AppleTV+’s The Last Thing He Told Me. Most recently, Rice starred as Cady in Paramount’s Mean Girls, Paramount+’s Honor Society, and Netflix’s Senior Year, and she can be seen in Marvel’s Spider Man franchise, The Nice Guys, Black Mirror, and The Beguiled. Fearn recently wrapped production on Ella McCay, where he shares the screen with an impressive ensemble cast including Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Woody Harrelson, and Ayo Edebiri. He can also be seen in 20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus and Charlotte Wells' award-winning British hit Aftersun.
