A.V. Rockwell's feature debut A Thousand and One won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The film, which premiered at Sundance on January 22, follows Inez (Teyana Taylor), a mother in New York City who will go to extreme lengths to keep her son out of the foster-care system.
On the official festival website, Sundance described the film as "an elegant ode to the terribly beautiful power of family as an anchor in an ever-changing world, making us into who we are in ways we can only haltingly understand."
In a review for the film, Variety wrote, "...Rockwell uses the full range of cinematic expressivity to turn a small, often tragic story of raw deals and rash decisions into an admiring portrait of survivorship, determination and resourcefulness." Similarly, Deadline said there is "so much to appreciate about A.V. Rockwell’s A Thousand and One."
A Thousand and One premieres in theaters on March 31, 2023.
