Celebrating Shaun of the Dead's—Edgar Wright’s zom-rom-com starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost—return to the big screen is a great reason to lift a frosty mug, especially this National Beer Lovers Day.
Beer blog Boak and Bailey writes, “Shaun of the Dead is one of the all-time great pub films.” Indeed, a pub is not only a prominent locale but essential to the film’s creation. According to Clark Collis’ You’ve Got Red on You: How Shaun of the Dead Was Brought to Life (excerpted in MovieMaker), Pegg and Frost essentially made The Shepherds pub their home while working on the movie. “To say we were regulars would be an understatement,” Pegg says in MovieMaker. “We just sort of lived there.”
Between drinking pints and cracking jokes, they imagined the story of two blokes against a sea of zombies. A tale, writes Establishing Shot, “in honor of all the beer-sipping doofuses who figure life out in their own time.”
